Systems break. Culture holds.

By Brian Passell, Ph.D. ·

"Culture" gets thrown around loosely these days. To me it's a very concrete thing.

In the tightest of nutshells: culture is what we value around here, and how we want to do what we do.

Here's why it matters more than most owners think.

Systems break.

We've all had those days. The internet goes down and nobody can get into the practice software. The big case doesn't show up. Half the team is out sick.

On those days, the SOP binder doesn't save you.

What saves you is a team that shares your values and agrees on how the work gets done. They improvise in the same direction. They cover for each other. They get the patients seen.

To be clear: you don't want to depend on that. You still need the systems.

But build the right culture, put the right people in it, and your team can get through almost anything.

Put the wrong people in it, and no system, no marketing budget and no number of big cases will fix that.
